I would not be without my Kobo ereader, I take it everywhere and do a lot of reading on the bus. I love my iPad, but it's not as practical to have in my handbag. let me know what you think of the book Poppy xxx
Thanks for the link Ivor, much appreciated xx Poppy, yes, I agree with what you have said xxx

So far I've only read the preface and the first chapter but I'm so impressed. I want to highlight everything. Can't believe this was written in 1948 when I was a small child - seems so relevant today.
I can understand already why I felt unfulfilled as part of the church I belonged to. Bless you Rita for telling me about it.

I have a day off today, and it's sunny x So I plan to sit outside and reflect on a few things, catch my breath and be still.
notice I say ' I plan ' - I really need to get to a point of saying ' if God allows me to ' - this is something I need to address as I know that I hold onto ' my space ' to the point where I do not want to surrender my time, when I know that I am not working and do not have to support my dad - especially when it is sunny. It's like my sabbath !! sorry just waffling !! Rita

I have such a heavy heart this morning- not just because of Kiera, although that has been part of the trigger. Work has been challenging this past week, it's been hard to pick myself up. Managment simply do not 'get' it, common to many work environments. They want more than you can give and fail to value and appreciate what you are doing. All about public image. Watching that drama, which also triggered off something when I realised that the thread had been more about an ongoing discussion between James, Ivor and Mike, rather than debating the program, made me feel manipulated. However it has made me aware of the outward public persona we often show, while being so opposite when we are behind closed doors-or perhaps on the inside. I don't know -it's bothering me. well I am in Costa, coffee nearly finished, better go to work. Feel like just getting on a bus in the opposite direction -but I won't x Rita

Watching that drama, which also triggered off something when I realised that the thread had been more about an ongoing discussion between James, Ivor and Mike, rather than debating the program, made me feel manipulated. Rita, the last thing I would have wanted would have been to "manipulate" anyone, After the 'squirming' issue had brought up the relevance of the TV Drama, I was hoping for a parallel genuine discussion about the drama itself, as well as discussing the forum relevance which it seemed to exemplify, and I still hope that will emerge, as you will see from my next reply to Ivor.
Initially, before I had re-joined SiT2, I had emailed four old forum friends, seeking such an email discussion about the drama series, and my re-joining was not in order to force such a discussion. Indeed I would not have mentioned it were it not for it's relevance to the 'squirming' issue that arose.

Hi Mike, I was merely expressing how it made me feel yesterday. I mean I went out of my way to download and watch episode one, and make comments on it - blimey, I even sat here and made notes !! Lol However it's not what I have said that appears to interest you because you have merely responded to what James and Ivor have said - reinforcing my conclusion that it is really them you wish to debate with. There is nothing that says you have to respond to anyone, so that's fine- as I said in my earlier post I have not had a good 24 hours - and it's been another challenging day at work. I am grateful for my job, grateful that I am mobile and can be independent - but some days everything gets through. Manipulation was perhaps the wrong word to use, sorry, perhaps I just felt I had wasted my time x Right I need a cuppa x Rita

Rita you sound about done in. Work does get us down, more so when those over us do not grasp how hard we are trying to be and do the best in the situation. I do pray that you will experience a better 24 hours than the last 24.
I am not part of the discussion Rita since I did no more than read the in depth write up, I just don't see the point, others do. May they have a good interchange of iron upon iron and thereby the edge will become even sharper to achieve Gods surgical work.
Bless you Rita.
James

It's been awhile since I wrote anything here.....
Keira - Sarah relays that she should be back in Brighton now, she has movement from the waist and above, but has now come to terms with the reality that she is now wheelchair bound. She has already decided to take a driving test and get a disability car - this shows she is adapting and looking to the future. Her first commitment when coming home was to go up to London with her boyfriend ( he has stood by her throughout the last 8months ). I see many positives - what an amazing young women.
Dan - to my surprise he decided to give up smoking- considering he has chain smoked for the last four years because of his anxieties. Many years ago, when he nearly lost his foot due to smoking triggering of small blood clots in the tiny veins , he read a book by Alan Carr ( not the comedian ) this guy had also been a chain smoking - but dealt with the mental addiction , which then led him on to being able to put out his last cigarette and never smoke again. Dan read the book, but did not really want to give up, so it was of little use. My daughter used the book and wanted to give up, it worked for her and she has not smoked for ten years. Anyway this time Dan really wanted to give up - he read the book and put out his last cigarette six days ago - I was sceptical, but have seen such a difference in his attitude to the smoking issue, that I now see that the book works. He has to deal with the physical withdrawal, but the mental addiction is simply not there anymore. He has had a testing week, no desire to smoke at all.
Work, I have gone down with a virus and had to take a few days off, the ecoli is still not completely dealt with - after the very difficult month we have had, our manager went round with a clip board listing all the things we have not done - so discouraging because we have been concentrating on infection control - which takes so much time. I have come to realise that even if I give 100% it is never going to be enough - so I now have to work out if I am willing and able to work with that awareness- kind of figure it must be how it is within this realm of work everywhere, but believe that there must be some places where the balance is better between management and teams.
Right i I need a cuppa xx Rita

Good to hear from you Rita, especially with such positive news about Dan and Keira. I'm sorry you've been ill but the break from work will give you some much needed thinking time when you can stand back from your daily work related hassles and work things out in your head with God's help.

Rita as the Beatles said it, it sounds as if you have been "working like a dog" . Must be hard to try so very hard only for someone to then point out all the short falls. I hope the virus moves on soon and you feel back to strength. I shall be praying for you to find physical and mental strength for the coming days. Bless you. James

Thank you for your prayers, feel fine now.
I felt led to write to our manager, just sat down and shared from my heart. He was leaving this week, so I wanted to thank him for giving me some hope while he has been in charge. He is the first manager that has taken time to speak to me. Anyway the letter brought about a meeting with the housekeepers and the head of housekeeping. This gave everyone a chance to be open, and for the head of housekeeping to explain why she has to go round with her clip board every month. She apologised for how it had all come across. The manager then asked me to go and see him, he handed me a letter - ' good or bad I said ' He said ' open it, it's good ' - I was so surprised, inside was a thank you from the owner of the home and 100:00 of gift vouchers - for the outstanding work during the ecoli outbreak - the manager had been asked to put forward all those team members who had gone the extra mile during the last two months. He sent my name in 2 weeks ago, before I sent the letter in relaying that I was so discouraged. It does make me feel slightly awkward with fellow housekeepers, I was the only one to recieve this thank you - but I was on the high risk floor and did work hard to keep the area clinically clean - with dementia residents you cannot confine them to their rooms because they do not understand. Out of 250 people ( staff and residents ) we only had 19 cases of ecoli - considering how easy it is to spread, I think we all did an amazing job. So God is good - he used my actions, but also my words to bring about a start of communication, and I was in turn encouraged - and , interestingly, I lost 100:00 on wages when I was sick !!!!!! Rita x

isn't our God wonderful. He gives encouragement when we need it and also made your loss of wages up to you in a lovely way. Hope things will be better now because of the communication between staff and management.

What an amazing turn around Rita. Reminds me of the old BT advert with Bob Hoskins "its good to talk". Sometimes it is as if we talk to each other but in reality don't say anything, if you understand what I mean.
I am refreshed that the situation did not change but the understanding of all those in the situation did. The Lord had his answer before we call.
Bless you Rita, James

You still the flavour of the month or is it down to earth with a bump?
The same old grind does get one down a bit, how you look after all those people I don't know, I am beginning to get sick and tired of looking after me. I find myself thinking "well he has not done much today to warrant a meal, bread and jam will do!" I am beginning to have to force myself to eat.
I hope you are still enjoying the peace and blessing of God, it never changes, unfortunately we do.
James

You'll need to keep your strength up James as you don't want to end up a shadow of your former self when you eventually get to join your family in Bulgaria. And for the record you don't have to 'warrant' a meal so get some ready meals in if you don't want to cook.

"seasons" James sometimes I'm busy and sometimes I do nothing - but every day I eat and I never feel guilty about it.

James the wood cutters first day he cut 15 trees and the boss said "good work" so the next day he tried harder and only cut 12 trees so on the third day he was extra determined yet after extra effort he only cut 9 trees and he thought he must be getting so weak.
The boss came at the end of the third day and was disappointed so raised the question "when did you last sharpen your axe?" the woodcutter replied "I don't have time to sharpen my axe I'm too busy cutting down trees"
Rest and relaxation are part of the way our bodies work... God knows that for he made us and he expects that we give our bodies what they need. In a busy period of our lives we may have been on the go 16-18 hours a day something we would never expect of an employee yet we wonder why we are tired when our bodies crave rest.

Hello- so sorry I have been really busy - and my trip to Cyprus is coming up, so had extra things to get organised. Work has been busy, and the issue of those vouchers has created a few problems, not with those who received them, but with management for the way they did things.
We we are now finally free of ecoli - so the home is now open again and getting back to some normality. I have only two shifts left this week, then on holiday - we fly to Cyprus on Sunday - I am so looking forward to it all. I love being on my own, so looking after myself would not be a problem James, however I do know what you mean about getting yourself food- think it is a common problem when you are on your own. I do not mind the same routine, although at work everyday is slightly different because of the change over of staff, and the complexity of 36 dementia residents, it's an interesting place to be.
Hope everything gets gets sorted for you soon James xxx
Dan is still not smoking, been nearly a month now. Keira is back in Brighton and loving having her own place, and despite being in a wheel chair is fast learning to be independent as much as she can- such a amazing young lady x Rita xx
