In order to stave off ‘end of life’ stagnation and ultimate demise (I can only hope it works) I have been devoting endless hours of compulsive digital reimaging of 44 of my favourite pictures, and building a mobile exhibition unit. The cost of my ‘perfectionist compulsion’ has been vastly in excess of any ‘sales’ recovery from occasional exhibition venues, but at least the endeavour will hopefully be subsidised, and the active preoccupation will help keep me fit. That said (and blatant exhibitionist that I am) I think I’ll try to post a page a day (especially when I'm otherwise feeling 'off colour) from the brochure/catalogue that will form part of my mobile exhibition; starting today with the front cover:

I hope not, Poppy. I would give up rather than being obliged to declare a 'profit' for tax purposes. But the costs already incurred will ensure that doesn't happen.

I'd have this one on my wall, and I don't say that just to massage your ego. I can't wait to see the rest.

It is a marvel to me Mike that someone can make a splodge of colour and it looks so real. I suspect my admiration is fired by the fact that not only can I not paint neither can I draw.

If you feel I'm overwhelming your 'discussion of God' forum with space taking images just say the word and your servant will desist (but otherwise only another 43 day's worth of images).

I have always liked your paintings Mike, i am not a big artwork fan ( some art I simply do not get !! Lol ) but your paintings have something about them that make you imagine imagine yourself in the picture- I guess I would call them reflective ( which is in line with part of my personality ). I would love you to post more xxx Just out of interest , on average, how much do you charge for a picture ? Rita

I remember the wind mill from the time Daniel and I came to meet up with you and Chris Mike. It is such a splendid building that I suspect it must have been captured by scores of artist both by paint and the camera lens. I enjoy the pictures Mike.

Day 6/Page 6 I always associate this picture with "When peace like a river attendeth my way.... it is well, it is well with my soul"

Do you take a photo and then enhance it, or is it a painting? It's lovely.

With my picture imaging software I am able to take a photo of a 100% original painting and make it look like an almost 100% original photo, or I can take a 100% original photo and make it look like a 100% original painting (although only very rarely do I resort to 100% change and almost never to the second option).
When I gave painting lessons I used to drum home that if you try to make a painting look as close as possible to the actual scene then you've left 'art' behind and might as well become a photographer. I used to drum home that a true 'artist' doesn't paint what he sees.... he paints what he wishes he had seen.
For this picture I took a photograph as a point of general reference only, and then painted an original picture, placing the various boats in whatever position I wished they had actually been and added bits, like the man walking his dog. Then I took a photo of the finished painting and used my picture imaging software to smooth out any unwanted painting brush marks, other blemishes, etc.
So the final 'prints' that I sell are a mixture of original painting and picture imaging 'clean-up'.
I reckon there's equal skill needed to do both effectively.
Before I sold most of my original paintings I took and saved a digital photo of the best (about 100) and from that collection I periodically choose which to 'work up' for print sales.
I held back about three or four of my originals (mainly because Chris wanted us to keep them) and I'll say which they are as I post copies of them (Moonlit Saltmarshes was one).

Day 8/Page 8 A 'twin' to the previous picture, but with emphasis on the Hotel which holds fond memories for so many tourists.
