My problem was in finding the people that were not here. I was dwelling on Karim's problem and also wanting some encouragement for myself. I don't mind visiting different forums, but often I don't visit each one often enough to know what is going on until it's already too late to even submit my opinion on what is happening. After so many years I shouldn't be surprised at anything. What is it that scripture says: "nothing new under the sun"? That is surely the truth, but it is not a truth that I should allow to upset me, but sometimes it does anyway.
We do all need encouragement. Friends can be difficult to find.

This forum hopping was really getting to me... especially when I spent a lot of time learning to navigate this one like it was going to be the final destination.
Then while I am wandering from one to the other, as Helen said, to contact essentially the same ones in three different places, lo and behold, that little e-mail conversation occurred completely outside of the three forums. At first I read and didn't respond, but by the time I decided to respond the whole thing was gone. I am not criticizing anyone. Just stating the facts. My heart says, 'Give God the glory', but my flesh gets tired and frustrated.
Probably all of us like things a bit more on the simple side. I still can't work the silly cell-phone my kids gave us after 2 years. My wife is better at that while she consults me for problems with regular computers. We're both hopelessly antiquated when it comes to so many modern devices. When pressed to it, I can usually learn what I need to... but I am still an "old dog" and anything new is usually avoided as much as possible.

I prefer openness I don't like cliques that emerge like the private "group" email stuff unless its taking care of general business - but I don't like having exclusive spiritual riches.. thats probably why I never commented.

You and me both Amadeus, I have a new computer running windows 10 but here I am on my old XP computer because I know my way around it. On the new one the other day it said I needed a plug in to play a video that Helen posted, on this one it plays no problem. How come the brand new one needs extra stuff? How come I don't even know what extra stuff it needs or where to find it? How come things have to change, kids think we old folks are stupid. What they don't understand is because they are children they only know the new stuff whereas we have been having to change gear every ten years for the last 70. Life is grand !! James

What they don't understand is because they are children they only know the new stuff whereas we have been having to change gear every ten years for the last 70. Life is grand !! James I noticed the same thing when I purchased a new computer, James. They have more capacity and supposedly are faster. The reason I guess they really often are slower is that there more advertisements on the Internet taking up computer time. I forget now which ones, but there are definitely fewer completely free software programs included in the package when you buy a computer than previously. Also more of your purchases in earlier times were a one time only buy that were yours... not requiring a new payment for continued usage or update.
Now, often you are only buying the use of it for a period of time. When that time expires if you haven't come across with additional money you lose the use of the program.
I had a similar problem a few months ago when I decided to buy a new addition of Microsoft Office as mine is from the year 2000. I did not pay attention and found out after I started to install it that there were two new requirements. 1) You have to have an Internet connection to install it. 2.) The new edition I had bought for over $120.00 was only good for 12 months. Then you would have to pay them again (yearly?). With literally thousands on entries for my stamp collection alone, why should I pay a yearly fee for something that was always free?
I returned the software to the seller and obtained a refund thinking I would struggle on with my troubled old software. With each new computer purchase I have more trouble getting the new machine to accept the installation. Then I found by accident a software program made in Germany for only $20.00 called Office Suite (2012 edition). It does everything that Microsoft Office does and is compatible with Microsoft Office. I downloaded it onto my computer and it is mine. While they do have yearly updates you can buy, they are not required. This new program can read and transfer all of my multitude of information from Microsoft Office without losing anything. The difference in price of about $100.00 is unbelievable and this one doesn't expire. I wonder how long this can last?

I always feel I should know what you are all talking about in the great computer lingo!!! but at the end of reading it, I still draw the same conclusion that I'm still one of the computer challenged, I wonder if there's a pill for that .

Some one once told me Barley Pills are the bees knees of pills, cure anything. I got to wondering if I ground them up and pushed them through the ventilation holes of my XP computer if it would change into a windows ten all singing all dancing one. Any ideas Dave

After such brilliance James. My ideas would only pale in your revelatory theory, grind the wonder pills you would have too, they seem about a foot long when you try swallowing them, the only thing I've noticed, is a more prolific ear and nose hair groweth but wait, maybe it's the other pill Helen gave me. Maybe the small print said, grows hair on billiard balls .

Don't worry about it, Dave. As God is above us similarly are our grandchildren above us all in computer usage and understanding. Never mind about the pill. Even if there was one, it would not be worth the effort to swallow it.

Good sunny day yesterday,Thursday. In the afternoon went with Jeanette to Sale water park. First walked all the way round the lake then watched the birds. They have loads of Canada Geese as well as ducks. People bring food for them each day, most times they are not a bit interested because they are over fed. This time they had swans in abundance, first saw two on the slip way that looked full size but had not lost all their brown baby feathers, then noticed a couple of adults in the water. They were chased off by another swan that was going up and down like a destroyer in full attack mode, wings held high and also flapping on the water to make as much noise as possible. We went to sit in the warmth of the car and carried on our swan watching, in all I counted 12 plus the two young ones. Have not just sat and looked at nature for a long time, one can get out of the habit of enjoying the journey.

we do take things for granted. We are having a few nights Thurs- Sat in London to see Les Miserables and we are taking the train. I'm keen to get a window seat and watch all the journey down and the sights that only the train ever sees because even in the towns the forsaken track sides and inaccessible places there's life in abundance and always something to see - probably not swans

To true ivor! Silver birch and Buddleia love the poor soil conditions of a rail track.
John going back to what you said about a alternative to Microsoft, was it the office program called "WPS Office" . I see one can download it free and it does integrate with Microsoft office. If I don't soon install a program for writing on my PC I shall never get down to using it for the day to day.

James, it's migration north time for the geese here, so I have the pleasure of watching them get into the V formation and obviously honking is of great importance. Interesting, that the creation took five days and man one day and it's not man groaning for the manifestation of. There are so many simple pleasures that are so easily passed by. One of the things I used to notice on railway banks was that horseradish grew abundantly, why I ask?

No, it's put out by "ENCORE" and the name of the program is "Office Suite for Windows". I did not get it online. I purchased a hard CD which I proceeded to download to my computer. It has some slight variations to Microsoft Office but it does everything I want it to do but seems to be just as good for a fraction of the price. I use it daily with my stamp collection inputs as well as some Bible study notes and am completely satisfied with it. Why spend more than a one-time only twenty dollars?
It has a program similar to "Word" for simple writing . It also has a program similar to "Excel" for doing spreadsheets and tables. Since I have literally thousands of stamps catalogued and to be catalogued the spreadsheet is ideal for my purposes. It has dozens of mathematical formulas built into it which for my stamp programs is great for calculating values of stamps and numbers of stamps, etc.

Thanks for the information . I shall take a look and see what to use. The good thing with the free stuff is that if it does not work out one can easily delete and try another. Bless you James

Went off at 1.30 today for an appointment with a chap to see if he could find out why my shoulder hurt . Turns out I have bone growth on the AC joint and it is rubbing the tendon. Need a keyhole opp to put it right. Arrived back home at 9 tonight so not much chance to come and enjoy all the post on the site. Therefore I thought I had better put a note on for those who are getting out of bed on the other side of the world.
God is good to me!

James, thanks for the information, you sure they don't have a special wing for the Alexanders there? . Sounds like the old shoulder just needs a tune up, a couple of snips and a suck out and you'll be off an shovelling like new, any way joking aside, you will be in our prayers for speedy healing bro.

Abbie and I have been a sorry pair. I am getting over a rough cold now, but she is still running hot and cold. Not the best way to spend the last four days which were the children's half term. Another day and I shall be back to my old self but Abigail is taking a lot longer to heal. Every one else is in rude health including the cats and dogs.
