We're told that our young men will have visions, whilst our old men will dream dreams. Well, this old man was sent day dreaming by something that was said during lunch today. And I dreamed of the days long ago when Norwich held annual interdenominational evangelical crusades and I sang on the platform as part of the crusade's choir. On one such occasion we sang a song entitled "The great Judgement morning" (presumably intending to draw converts via the 'fear factor'). Years past and I never again came across the song until I stumbled upon the following rendition.
Now I'm wondering just how each of us view the face value of the message, which indeed runs clear enough throughout Revelation.
Anybody care to elaborate?

Mike I used to like the christian get togethers, but our old pastor used to warn us about the R,C ecumenical dangers . The RC's were always his scarlet woman!!!! I used it think it was nice with all the other deno's, then we would disappear too our own deno' refuge. I'd plod down to the beach if there was a outreach going on. Never made any of the musical bits . As to saved by fear, that reminds me of Paul's cruise, and fear being a motivating factor in all the people getting safely to the 'shore'. Like many songs I think the writers wrote out of how they viewed the Father, and then added scripture to fit, the 'nation to be born' in a day has no mention of impending judgement. If there is another sin judgement, then the cross was not the 'great judgement' and Jesus was not enough, and we all go down the big flusher, the book of John's Revelation of Jesus, is of a triumphant Lamb, and a successful saviour of the whole world. To quote Ivor, there are a lot of my pieces still in Gods box but HE who began a good work in each of us, will go on the complete us, I may be a 'day' dreamer but at the end of each of God's 6days, HE saw that it was good, and then adds on the 6th and it's very good. In that 'day' where there's no darkness I believe He will look and say; it's very good, and we will know a true rest that passeth all our understanding.

Hey Mike , Im sure you already know what I believe! The way I read Rev , no Christians are at The White throne judgement. It’s for the nations and suchlike ( sorry this font is big , but I’m on my iPad , which I find hard to see,)
Our works will be tried by fire , of what sort it is etc..but we ourselves have been judged already ‘in Christ’...= no white throne..
What we need to concern ourself with , is after the test of the fire , will I have anything in my hand to bring and lay at His feet .
im with you , and your favourite hymn , nothing in my hand I bring ...etc id like to have something to lay at His feet ..but I have my doubts. Yet the question is...Will the radiance of His awesome face take away all other regrets ....I think so...
i did like your song very much ...love country music .. (Even if not the theology of it...)
be blessed ...Helen

Superb posts from Dave and Helen. Likewise both know that , for my part I lean, albeit only an inclination, towards annihilation. But whatever, God grant that eternal torment in hellfire for the vast majority of mankind is but a biblical misrepresentation (or misunderstanding) of his will and intent.

BTW, I found the Hank Williams rendition when I was doing a search for Christian country and western songs. Another one that I enjoy is:-

Mike a good choice, I like old Willie's style, and that song has had some great versions by singers thru the years, I'm growing the 'Willie' hair but it doesn't come with any better singing unfortunately!!!! have you tried any of Alan Jackson's? another fav of mine are 'The Oak Ridge" singers. But I suppose I always seem to end up with the old Bill Gaither gathering songs, one of my fav' faith ones is 'Looking for a city' like old Ab, followed by The Hoppers rendition of 'Jerusalem'

Sadly I'm missing the religious music gene.. I only seem to like the very simple praising God songs and everything else goes straight over my head a bit like poetry does... Its recently been the Scottish poet Robbie Burns event and try has I may I would sooner read a dictionary. That's not to pull down his work or anyone's taste in music but beauty truly is in the eye or "the ear" of the beholder.

At least you are thereby better equipped to express your wisdom about the multi faceted nature of the 'Body of Christ'. Nevertheless I always feel sad at our not being able to more fully empathise with regard to 'music'; whilst appreciating that each of us is more 'complete' in our embrace of each other.

Ivor, I’ve never liked religious music but Christian music birthed out of a person experience with Jesus works for me, songs like, ‘ Why me Lord’ is a question I often asked the Lord, and ‘ Jesus it’s me again’ I can also relate too, plus give me that old country music as we have an Alberta country jamboree in the summer with a lot of Christian singers, you have me now pondering, religious music ?

Mike I see it like a clay pipe You know the ones that go underground that are now made of plastic and one man can carry a 15 feet length on his shoulder. At one time that wasn't the case, and they were made from thick clay and fired in an oven to become hard and impervious and were much shorter. Those are the heavy clay pipes that I refer to: Imagine in your minds eye that a giant clay pipe was suspended vertically in the sky and there was a city on the plains below it and a second city high on the mountain side level with it. Those on the mountain side having no other reference point would see a clay rectangle box which is impenetrable and when they made a replica of all that they could see they created a solid rectangular clay box Those living in the city on the plains and looking directly up at the cylinder could only see a delicate clay ring that was empty and the birds of the heavens could fly through it and the clouds would sail over it and when they made a replica of all they could see of the thing in the sky they created a very thin wedding ring of clay This caused a war Those who have journeyed from the city in the mountains to the city on the plains a journey of many many years have discovered other facets of the pipe .. seeing it as cylindrical as they looked at it from a completely different angle throughout their travels but they cannot tell either the city dwellers or the mountain side dwellers that they are wrong because they are not wrong... all they can do at first is say. "there are other ways to see the pipe" Then one day they became just a little bit wise and realised they are not different its just that they have had a different journey and that its better to say nothing of how others see the pipe because it does not matter one bit. They themselves however Mike sadly cannot embrace either city's view (the solid rectangular box songs or the delicate clay wedding ring songs) because neither reflect the heart of someone who see things differently when singing the Pipe's praises ...................................................................................................................................................................... I am moved by very simple praise towards God

I do get some odd thoughts Mike, and on 'the great judgement morning' why morning? maybe 'the great afternoon judgement' didn't fit the song. But what is interesting at the great first judgement, God judged the serpent, the woman and the man and never annihilated any of them, when he could have cleaned the slate and reset His plan but-----. Why would the end be different . From odd thought in Calgary .
