Hi Chris, I must admit I have concerns for my dad and son in law- but also for work and the residents. I use public transport all the time - and, as Helen says, it’s that period of time when you don’t know you are infected. I do my dads shopping on line anyway, but I cannot make him stay indoors yet- he only goes out once or twice a week anyway. He also has hospital apps, and an op coming up in April. My brother is unwell in Germany at the moment, he came in contact with some who has just returned from Israel - but his test show it is ordinary flu, so that is still doing the rounds as well. He was fine one moment, then felt awful and had to go to bed. He is dues to come over here in April, but not sure they will start restricting the euro star if things continue to get bad in Europe. We have never been able to stop the flu going around, not sure we can with this either. Rita Hi Rita, Thank you for popping in. Perhaps you would like to give my boiled cake a try too (see last entry - Page 1) Until now this virus thread has felt far away, and no problem of mine, but since the conversation with my sister, it is dawning on me that this is something which could indeed affect Ian and I, and that I must prepare seriously for the possibility of isolation. The supermarket shelves are being stripped of certain necessary items I hear, but it should not be necessary if everyone is sensible. You work in the care sector, don't you? I did too at one time, so I appreciate your concern for the residents of such places, who are so dependent on others for their well being. I hope those within your family who are particularly at risk will escape it, Rita, that your brother in Germany will recover from his dose of flu soon, and that his April visit is not jeopardised by the restrictions imposed here. I don't know how long these outbreaks usually last. With love in Christ Jesus Chris

Hi Chris We were the first county to get cases, and literally just round the corner from the care home - so that brought it close to home about a month ago. It’s quite challenging to consider the implications, and it really tests your faith as it hits quite a few fears. The shopping situation seems to be affecting all nations, my brother said Aldi have run out of toilet paper and pasta, same in Australia ( there have been fights in the aisles of supermarkets ) That recipe looks really nice, but I made a decision to give up cakes, biscuits and chocolate three weeks ago - not sure how long I will do that, it’s mainly that I tend to pick on those things at work and it’s just not healthy - it’s really hard some days , but kind of getting use to it. However when I relent I will give it a try xx I usually get chocolates for my birthday in April, so I may give myself a few days off x
If the virus was to come into the home it would be a nightmare on the demencia floor, elsewhere we could isolate residents in the rooms ( and clean continuously with chlorine - not allowed to use bleach ) but it’s near impossible to stop some residents from walking around. Also all the teams would be at risk as well. Not quite sure what the plan would be with regards to having enough staff - we have just under 100 residents.( biggest care home in Brighton ) I think they will lock down the care homes , make it staff only to come in. Rita x

Rita x Hi Rita, I appreciate your problems in the care home, not easy to isolate individuals who can't appreciate why their movement is being restricted. I am also trying to cut back on the calories, but maybe cake someday, yes? You mention the testing of faith in regard to this present virus and it's dangers. I am 72 in June, and have a mild form of asthma, which may make me a target, my husband is 75, my sister and her husband are in their eighties and in ill health, so we are all in danger in one way or another, but it doesn't bother me, because whatever happens we have had a life. It it were the young that were being affected, then it would be a tragedy. It also helps to know that our hope is not for this life only, for in Christ Jesus there is the glorious hope of a resurrection life yet to come. My Father and elder brother ( then 15yrs), after the loss of three children one after the other, ( aged 9 & 2 years, and one immediately after birth) lost their faith in a loving God, and remained hardened against Him till they died, unfortunately, so I realise that the loss of a loved one, regardless of their age and infirmity is tough, and can bring bitterness of heart against God to one whose faith is not strong, Thank you, Rita, for your input. Chris

Great Advocate, Almighty Friend, On Thee alone our hopes depend; Our cause can never, never fail, For Thou dost plead, and must prevail.
In every dark distressing hour, When sin and Satan join their power: Let this blest truth repel each dart, That Thou dost bear us on Thy heart.

Chris Thank you Chris, Its really strange but since I turned 60 two years ago my fears about the dying process increased and I get concerned about dan and his future. Also with Jeff passing last year, and watching them go through the loss, I really don’t want them to lose me just yet. It’s not so much me dying that hits me, but the thought of leaving my children behind. So sorry to read about your father and brother xx My twin brother and his wife lost five babies , four during pregnancy and one at term - I never really knew how to deal with that as a Christian, I was being blessed with four healthy children, and they were suffering. My mum could never understand the suffering in the world either, and this is one issue dan has with a God who is all powerful - why doesn’t he stop it all. We do sometimes discuss it more fully, but it isn’t always easy to give answers. Rita

'And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.'(Luke 12:4-7) Hi @pat, When I read your post, and thought about fear, I thought of the verse above, which does not have any relevance to what you have been saying, I'm afraid, but none the less is a good verse to think on. I remember looking at this verse in relation to the word, hell (Gehenna). God has the power to kill, but also to cast into hell. Awesome isn't it? referring as it does to the judgement of the end time, and the fires of Gehenna? What follows in verses 5-7 sweeten the pill a little though doesn't it. * A pandemic holds no fear, in the light of that knowledge.
In Christ Jesus Chris

'O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.'(Psalms 34:8) I haven't been here for a while, and it looks as though I have run out of cake, but there is a cuppa for all comers My husband and I are now in isolation. Having heeded the Prime Ministers words. It is quite nice at the moment, for we are grounded, there is nowhere to go, and so nothing to concern ourselves with. Today is my Husband's birthday, and yesterday was our wedding anniversary. Both spent on our own. My husband had made another Christmas cake to keep until now, so we have had our first slice with a glass of sherry, singing happy birthday, with candles on the table, with classic fm on the radio. All good fun! I think we tend to forget that God gave us the ability to have fun, and be playful, and laughter is a good medicine. 'Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.'(Ecclesiastes 5:18) Praise God!In Christ Jesus Chris

At least here it doesn't matter , Pat and Rita will know what's what.
But I am always doing this in texting family members ...and I get a text saying- " Ummm I don't think you meant this text for me."

Rita x Rita the safe use of chlorine is paramount because even the tiniest mixture of chlorine and acid will create chlorine gas --- imagine how acid burns the skin in liquid form .. when chlorine is added in any amount the acid turns to gas instantly (green/brown cloud) and you may breathe it into your lungs even through a paper mask
Acid is in many bottled household cleaning products (check the labels) and any layers of one and the other on hard surfaces has the potential to gas those close to the mixing
google stuff Chlorine and Acid mixed .. it may shock you ehs.berkeley.edu/lessons-learned/lesson-learned-accidental-mixing-bleach-and-acid

It’s alright Ivor we have strict guidelines with the chemicals we use. Chlorine is usually only used when we have an outbreak of bacteria - and it’s all we use , nothing else. We have it in tablet form and it’s mixed with water. We have found out that chlorine will not help with the virus, so we are not using it. We did find out early on that If you mix it in water and put it in a spray bottle it could explode !! We have been using chlorine tablets in the care home for five years, it was particularly good when we had the ecoli outbreak three years ago. We are currently using alcoholic wipes on door handles and handrails ect, then professional cleaners on other surfaces. Rita
