Let's see whether I'm going to find this thread to be of any value (to me). Interesting that Helen and Rita have placed their 'journals' in a different board, whereas Ivor, who thinks quite differently from me, has also chosen this board. I'm going to kick off with a resolution to attempt to convert to 'positive thinking', in the sense of not giving a fig about the fact that others might think and believe the details of their 'faith' differently from me, other than in respect of there being one Sovereign God in whom we place our trust for 'life after death'.
Today, my bit of day to day irrelevance concerns the fact that I'm now using the on-board technical read-outs for my electric car, to assist me in driving in the most economical way, and this has already enabled me to cover 28 actual miles whilst expending only 15 'miles' of battery charge. My car 'reads' my driving style and, as a consequence, tells me that I have 94 'miles' of available battery after each full overnight re-charge. That means that with the 28 to 15 ratio I can cover 170 miles before running out of battery. But that would drastically reduce in adverse driving conditions, but might marginally improve in ideal summer conditions. Now, the real 'deal breaker' is that I live only four miles from a National Trust re-charge point where, as a National Trust member, I can plug in and re-charge totally without cost. How's that for low cost travel? Even so my 'Old Age' free bus pass is still my cheapest option.

Mike, you have the travel senario down to a science; I never have liked electricity since my half brother got me to put my finger in the light socket, when the bulb went out during the war and the old man and old lady were up the pub. So I console myself with my petrol polluting, fuming car; part of my anti green thing . But I fill up at the petrol station that sells genuine Canadian petrol made in Alberta and also Tim Hortons coffee. No freebee's for us senior white folk. Please note; no scripture or any reference to beliefs, just positive . Have a GOOD night.

I like the idea of electric cars but would feel desperate without an engine in reserve. I see electric bikes as the best way to go - not big sporty electric bikes that do 200mph but the equivalent of a moped that can take advantage of light weight (one human body and no bodywork) minimal lighting and no heaters or demisters, radio, sat nav in fact nothing to drain the battery but travelling.

So this estate agent was telling me about and showing of his Tesslar (spelling) car. Which is electric and drives itself. That means he can have breakfast and call his car and it will open the garage and drive to his front door. He said it cost £6 to go to London, so cheap to run, don't remember if it has a petrol engine as well. Then I asked what it cost, around £126000, so in fact not £6 to go to London. The whole of the floor pan was the battery. Has anyone the slightest idea how much it costs in damage to the environment to make a battery that size, or any battery for an electric car. The water alone runs into hundreds of gallons.
Green and or going green is a con, one that christians should not be taken in by. If you want to save the planet then the best way is to die to self , get perfected and usher in the kingdom of God on earth.

Nothing to do with 'Green'' I bought my Nissan Leaf secondhand and give no thought to where the electricity comes from to charge its batteries, as long as I've got a source that provides it for no more than the cost of National Trust membership, which I had in any case. I also give no thought to what went into the production of the battery. But it's scriptural to submit to our rulers who are doing all they can to get us lemmings to run electric cars. Surely you don't expect me to cut off the electricity supply to my house just because it might come from a far from 'green' nuclear power station. I've 'done my bit' by having PV Panels installed to my house so that I can help boost the National Grid from God's sunlight.

Yes indeed...light and heat from the sunshine should be our given right. As it helps the 'ol money to go a bit further , the more the better!! I'm with James too...the "green hoax" is as most other things 'government' is nothing more than a drain to every country to bring every little peon down, so the elite can rule easily. ( my not so very humble opinion ) Not that I agree at all about the careless way that people litter the land and oceans with plastic and chemicals , which endangers and kills many animals and fish....that is ignorant and stupid. But then again, at this time of my life, I am finding the majority of people are ignorant and stupid. The world is all 'up side down now.'

Sorry Mike that I ascribed higher ideals than you had indeed aspired to. No don't cut off your electric to the house, your computer would stop working and you would miss all my wonderful contributions to your daily life. I hope you and Chris get many happy Sunday afternoon drives out of your electric (non green) car, enjoy!!

Felt a distinct lack of empathy for my finger in the electricity story . BUT, pressing on; why is the "world" so happy with "green". There again, it is the colour of the American currency. Then you have "green peace" now that's an odd name and financed by who? And why is everything "green" so much more costly, the "green" movement have not reduced the amount of people going to grey hospitals and seeing brown doctors and getting white pills as I see it. . OH BEJJABERS it's St Paddy's day to day, "green" beer.

Green beer Dave! Reminds me of a story told by Billie Connelly about two Irish men on a visit to Rome who had a night out drinking pint glasses of Creme de Menth. Very funny but a bit rude.

Mike; I was watching our hockey team WIN the other night and just at the bottom of the screen they have snippets of information that go by at the speed of light and I read; well missed the first bit, but the second bit was " WATFORD NIL" So using my great powers of deduction; I thought, you can't win with nil!!!!!! the best is a draw I think. We do have on one sports station; which is the " Watching for dummies one" where the winning team is always coloured blue; so if, as the speed of light goes by it's blue, its a winner BUT if you can't read the writing one is still in the dark as it were; so one is left as it were with dark blue . So my positive question is; who was the other team???

I have just experienced an incredible series of favourable coincidences.
When I decided to convert to ‘electric only’ for my choice of a new car I fell for the salesman’s patter that, short of a Tessla, the Nissan Leaf was the best choice for long journeys when Chris and I wanted to visit friends and relatives on the far side of the UK. Last week I decided to put that to the test, got in my Leaf, and set the Sat Nav to take me to the first battery recharge point, having first checked that it was vacant and available for use (very useful info on the Sat Nav’s app.) But when I got there I found that others had meantime arrived and were connected up and recharging. I then had to sit and wait for an hour before the charge point became free, and had to sit for a further 30 minutes whilst my Leaf recharged. At which point I decided to turn back for home since I didn’t fancy similar delays at each of the three charge points that I would have had to use to complete my cross country journey. Consequently I decided I wouldn’t ever use the car other than for local journeys. But then I thought “why have such a large and expensive car just for local travel?” However, wanting to stay ‘electric’ because it is such an enjoyable experience, I began to wish that I had gone for one of the three cheaper and smaller electric cars ….. but how could I ever make the change without loosing heavily re what I had paid for the Leaf?
Now the coincidences:
Yesterday morning I drove into town and, whilst trying to park I accidentally scraped the whole of the driver’s side on scaffolding. I took the car for a repair quote to the dealer who sold it to me and their sales manager, out of the blue, offered a very good price to buy it back once it had been repaired because they had no other used Leafs on their books and had customers waiting for one. I snapped his hand off and returned home to search the internet for one of the smaller cars, but found them to be as rare as hen’s teeth. I eventually found one, but it was 250 miles away and, if I was interested, how could I get it home without the same recharge point problems? After I had phoned about the car and explained my dilemma, the dealer later rang me to say that he happened to have a car transporter coming up to him from Norfolk who would bring their small electric car back to me for a very modest sum, And now here I am having paid a deposit and secured my new small car, still mobile in a courtesy car whilst the Leaf is being repaired, insurance for the repair and for my new car all sorted, and all done in the one single day.
Wow.

Congrats Mike, Wow, some coincidences, might even be a bit of the Lord in there. With my heart it's all of the Lord. With my tongue, in one on one, face to face conversation, it would also be all of the Lord. But with my keyboard, and in the presence of a few who treat me like a heretic because I believe in the Bible in a way that is different from their beliefs, I restrict my pearls of faith to very spasmodic exposure.

I dont understand why these companies dont drop in a small single cylinder engine to generate a charge for those emergency occasions when a supply is not available. Maybe after someone has frozen to death in the winter they may do so

Maybe after someone has frozen to death in the winter they may do so BMW already do exactly that, with their version doing almost 400 miles without adding fuel. But it costs £31,000 to buy one new, and over £20,000 second hand.

Mike- in the presence of a few who treat me like a heretic because I believe in the Bible in a way that is different from their beliefs, I restrict my pearls of faith to very spasmodic exposure.
Even when some one tries to be generous in spirit, it is you Mike who has to drag it all back to how persecuted you are for your faith, you got a victim outlook by any chance?
Congrats on the new car by the way, I hope you feel suitable blessed.
